Health Sciences Libraries Information Systems Overview

Computers and Software
The Bio-Medical Library offers over 70 public-use computers, which are located on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of Diehl Hall. Both Windows and Macintosh workstations are available for use.  For a complete listing of the software available, consult the Bio-Medical Library Software page.

 

Flash Drives & Storage media
All public workstations are capable of supporting USB flash drive use. Due to location, some machines require the assistance of a library staff person to plug in your drive. Direct any questions to the Service Desk, where a limited selection of storage media--including CDs and flash drives--is available for sale.

 

Print/Copy/Scan
Self-serve copiers and printers are available
on the second floor of Diehl Hall. Self-serve machines accept payment via Gopher GOLD on your U Card or copy card. Departmental users with EFS accounts may also use a departmental copy card. For more information, see our Copying and Printing page.

Scanning Two scanners are available for use to create and manipulate images and text. Users can save images or text in a variety of ways, including saving to a floppy or flash drive, burning to CD, or by uploading to a personal Netfiles account (If U of M faculty, student or staff).

 

Wireless Access
The Bio-Medical Library provides wireless connections for those who are using their own laptops on campus. Wireless network is available in the main study areas on the second, third and fourth floors. The library also offers several group study rooms with wireless access on the second floor. Use an Internet ID (X.500) and password to access the wireless network. Public etherjack connections are not available in the Bio-Medical Library at this time.
