US Food and Drug Administration-Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM)
This agency regulates the manufacture and distribution of food additives and drugs that will be given to animals.
National Institute of Health
Typical position titles include "veterinary medical officer", "veterinary medical science" and "laboratory animal veterinarian".
USDA: Animal Plant Health Inspection Service
Position here include duties such as field inspection of flocks and herds, conducting computerized surveillance of animal health and disease outbreaks, and planning animal health programs at regional or headquarters locations.
USDA: Food Safety and Inspection Service
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is the nation's largest employer of veterinarians with over 1,200 professionals employed. Positions typically involve the inspection and dispositions of food animals which are presented for further processing before the meat and poultry products are made available to the consuming public. Applications are often accepted several months prior to graduation.
